Shopping, lunch and craft workshop – the perfect day.
Myself and my crafty buddy Amy recently enjoyed a crafty workshop at the Manchester Crafts and Design Centre. Our host was Zoe from Magpie Arts and the class was ‘Button Jewellery’ – with hundreds of buttons!
We arrived at the craft centre to be greeted by Zoe and a whole lot of buttons. If you’ve ever been to the Manchester Crafts and Design Centre you’ll know the place smells of creativity – an ideal location for a workshop.
It was fantastic rooting through all the buttons, matching colours and digging out the vintage finds. Using sliver coated wire we learnt how to make our own earrings incorporating the buttons into the design. Moving onto rings and broaches, I was amazed at how much we managed to achieve in the 2 hours.
Our workshop was followed by a brief visit to Fred Aldous to pick up some crafting essentials to carry on the jewellery fun.
Our Monday morning reunion was an unusually energetic morning. Skip the brew machine – we had jewellery gossip to exchange!
Since – we’ve been busy creating a collection of beautiful bits and pieces including cocktail rings and headbands (Amy’s creations!).
I would thoroughly recommend a workshop like this for anyone. It’s great for all ages and is guaranteed to set you off on a new creative journey.
