Shoes and Art – now there’s a blog post!

Winter – that time of year where you put away your pretty ballet pumps and wade through the puddles in your trusty leather boots.

Yesterday I took my new winter pals for a stroll around Liverpool – a fab birthday present from the ma and pa. A flash of colour to contrast the dreary pavements is just what you need in October.

Bought from Bertie, they seem to be a really fun American brand and I love them! Wear them laced, fold them over, drop the zip, wrap the laces…..never get bored!

What was I doing in Liverpool? Well I was fulfilling one of the to do’s that I had promised myself as part of an indulgent long weekend.

Liverpool is currently hosting the UK Biennial – an event that happens in the city every 2 years, which for an art lover living in the North West would be a crime to miss.

Highlights were the Bloomberg New Contemporaries and The Unexpected Guest which were located in a disused Royal Mail depot with huge sorting shoots and worn signage still in place.

Quite an erie experience at times walking (almost) lonesome around the large warehouse. Crazy halo shapes on the pictures we took made the name of the exhibition ‘The Unexpected Guest’ feel quite fitting. Spooky

And we couldn’t help but join in the dancing and running with the guy below. My favourite piece -

If you love to challenge your mind with contemporary ideas and stories, the sheer volume of art that is currently in Liverpool will make you feel over whelmed. You’ve got to go!

In fact, catch a train and stay overnight – it’s well worth it. Just make sure you’re wearing your comfy winter boots ;)
